Bangladesh becomes chairperson of OPCW executive council

Bangladesh has been elected Chairperson of the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in Netherlands.

This is for the first-time Bangladesh was elected to this position, the foreign ministry said on Thursday, describing it as a “big diplomatic achievement.”

OPCW is the implementing body of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), which entered into force in 1997. It has 192 member states, who are working together to achieve a world free of chemical weapons.
